Gene J. Goldberg, CPA                                                                                   

Gene Goldberg is managing partner of Goldberg Mechales Charneske & Schiffman, Ltd. Certified Public Accountants.

Gene received a BS in accounting in 1960 from DePaul University and became a Certified Public Accountant in the same year.  Upon graduation he went into the US Army as a second lieutenant in the infantry.  He completed his military obligation in 1968 being discharged as a captain.  Gene has over 37 years of accounting experience and has had offices in Illinois and California.  Thanks to Gene, our firm was a pioneer in the installation and use of computer systems.  He bought our first computer system in-house in 1972 and in 1975 we were the first CPA firm in this area to have an in-house multi-user system (PICK system).  Gene has served for two years on the insurance committee of the Illinois CPA Society as well as a past president of the Northbrook Continuing Professional Education Group.

Gene lives in Vernon Hills, Illinois with his wife Karen and their cat Simba. They have six grown children and seven grandchildren.

Nicholas P. Mechales, CPA, MBA                                                                   

Nicholas Mechales has been a partner with the firm since 1990.  Nick graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.  He received his MBA from Loyola University and attended the University of Chicago where he completed a graduate-level accounting program.  Before becoming a partner, Nick held the position of manager operations analysis at Amoco Chemical Company where he was employed for 21 years.  He has been practicing accounting since 1976.  With Nick’s experience, the firm has been able to offer our clients, consulting in business management and operations, and long range planning for top level management.

Sidney Schiffman, CPA                                                                                  

Sidney Schiffman has been an active participant in public accounting for over thirty years.  He received a masters degree in science before his activity in public accounting.  Sid was active in promoting the idea of greater participation by local practitioners in the Illinois Society.  He has a long history and experience in diverse industries ranging from manufacturing, insurance, finance, retail, etc.  He is an officer and director of private foundations promoting education and funding of students with complete four-year grants.
